Talking 04-05 DIY Headlight Bulb DIY

Yeah real easy stuff here i just happened to do it today and figured i would take a few pics incase someone stumbled upon doing the task and got lost.

SO!

Tools:

10mm Wrench
10mm Deep well socket
12mm Deep well socket (this is for my T bolt clamps on my short ram your materials may vary depending on your intake setup)
1/4" Drive Ratchet
Large Pair of Channel Lock Pliers

Start on the passenger side depending on what type of air intake you have you may or may not have to remove it. I have a short ram and it could stay but it makes it easier to remove it. If you have a stock box here are some instructions to get the air duct out of the way.

After your at the back of the headlamp we will go for the easy one first which is your 9005 bulb, basically give it a twist and it will come free then push the clip and release the plug.

Install is pretty much the same just in reverse, just make sure to keep your greasy ass fangers! off the bulb's glass

Now for the harder one the H1 bulb, grab your channel lock pliers and aim for the ribs on the cup and twist. Once freed you will notice two wires, a red and black. I removed the black for picture purposes but it can stay where it is, the red wire is the one connected to the bulb. SO pull straight back and release the clip, then take a flat blade screwdriver and press down to un-latch the keeper spring. Grab the bulb by the spade terminal on the back and remove.

Same procedure applies to the re-install just remember to keep your nasty fingers off the bulb. When it comes time to put the sealed cup back on you can give a thin layer of Vaseline to the O ring to help it seal (and also thread on easier) then tighten down into place with your hand.

For the Drivers side you will need to remove your battery. Take your 10mm wrench and loosen the terminals, followed by your 10mm deep well and take off the battery hold down. Lift out and set aside, make sure you either wrap your + terminal in a rag or something to insulate it so you don't fry anything!

Other than the battery the operations are the same as on the passenger side. SO ENJOY!

you don't need to disconnect the battery to do the drivers side just take the bracket out and slide the battery backwards, if your hands fit down there that is..

I put a set of silverstars in my 05 Waggy... nice light pattern, good level of brightness... burned out after about 4K miles... never touched the bulbs with my fingers or anything. Disappointed. Put my stock bulbs back in... still good after 20K miles later. I leave my lights "on" all the time, btw - I just think it's safer. If the silverstars have that short of a life, I'll go without.

Agreed, though... headlight housing design fail.
