If you need more outlets, and want to keep it clean looking, try this.
Buy a 3 outlet plug from RadioShack before they stop making it! This is the key part, as it is the perfect size for the project. |

Take out your stereo, and remove the screws holding in the fan/temp enclosure. That piece wont come out, at least i couldnt get it to, the trick is to push it (up and) out of the way to get access to the wires behind the cig. lighter.
note: you dont need to take the top vent out for this install, i did because i was hooking that GPS up too. unplug black plug, top left unplug white plug on cig. lighter , bottom left unscrew the tray holding the ashtray, and slide out the ashtray if have not already. Trick- there is a screw at the back, under the tray. Some work is needed to remove the plugs as they are attached the frame. Ok so the tray is out, and you have that wire harness Cut off the plug on that radioshack part you just got, or take it apart and desolder it. Ok time to get some power, use some wire taps, or as i chose to do, slide those tabs out, and solder right on to them, and slide back in. white stripe goes to red, black goes to black. shove all those wires back in there, i left the full lenth of wires on there in case i moved it later, but feel free to cut them down before you solder/tap. I put a lttle piece of doublesided tape on the box, and pushed it in there, or could screw it in. Done. That was a quick recap, so any questions let me know, but it will make more sense if/when you start the project. for all i know there is a better way to do it, but this is the best way i could find. Just remember all this is fused off the original cig. lighter fuse, so dont hook up anything too crazy |

Update for 12v outlet
http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...&threadid=1322
Please add the following: Bearacing sent me this update, thanks: 1st the BAD News: The 12V Triple outlet is no longer available from Radio Shack. The part # has been discontinued and replaced by something much cheesier & also too large. Now the GOOD News: I found the exact same product as Radio Shacks' original, marketed by a company called MISTER BRACKET -Garland TX. I found it in a local auto parts store. I paid $15. You can purchase on line for $10 at: http://www.valcoelectronics.com/mrbracket/mrbracket.htm |
