DIY Body colored tail gate trim.
I’ve seen this mod pictured on Foresters before so I can’t claim it as an original idea. 06 Foresters come from the factory with this trim piece painted body colored too.
Thanks to Subie Gal for recommending Paint World on a post over @ NASIOC. http://paintworldinc.com/ Their products worked great and they were the cheapest. These are professional quality products which require a good respirator and proper safety precautions. ![]() ![]() The Sand Free is used to create a bond to the plastic, then you apply the color coat. After that dries you finish with clear. Some paint colors will require a third coat called a pearl coat which goes on after the color coat and before the clear coat. The trim piece is a PITA to remove and install by yourself due to the licence plate light wiring assembly. You have to unscrew that assembly from the tail gate trim while the wiring is still connected to car. There is not a lot of slack in the wiring nor is there a disconnect. I highly recommend having a helper handy. While I was at it I sprayed the windshield washer jets body color too. ![]() ![]() I may do the rear washer jet too. |
