Forester washable pemanent cabin air filter.

Do you want to build a cabin filter that you will never need to replace? One that you can just clean yearly. This is how I built one for $19.99 in materials and your old filter frame.
Our local Home Depot now carries electrostatic filters that can be cut to size and claim to be permanent.

Cut the new filter frame to fit tight inside old filter and cut out the old filter material

I narrowed the frame a little and drilled holes for even greater air flow

Cut the supporting mesh to fit inside the new filter

Here is the fully assembled filter

I used two layers of the filter material in the new cabin filter and applied a thin bead of silicone to seal the edges.

Washable Filter 2

So that our SF folks don't feel left out, here is the same upgrade on an old filter from our 98 Forester.
The procedure is similar, only this time I glued it in place with black silicone glue.
