Forester Subwoofer

Thanks goes to SuperRu of the Forester Forum for the following contribution:

Following Peaty’s lead I’ve upgraded my XT Sub with a Pioneer TS-A6970R 6 x 9 Coaxial speaker with the coaxial part removed.

The stock speaker measured 1.9 ohms, the Pioneer replacement measured 3 ohms. An 2 ohm 6 x 9 high quality woofer would be ideal, but I don’t think there is such an animal available.

While I had it all apart I added a little Dynamat Extreme and sealed up the speaker compartment a little better with some black GE Silicone II. The far right cavity near the strut tower didn’t seem to be sealed so I stuffed a bunch of poly fill in there to dampen it.

I’ve only listened to it for a few minutes to make sure it works before buttoning it all up. It sounds real nice at first blush.
This is what you need to do to remove the tweeter

I extended the speaker wires into the storage compartment. In doing so I am able to swap the phasing of the woofer 180* by switching the wires. This will sometimes make a nice difference in bass response. I found that connecting the gray w/ brown factory speaker wire and the small terminal to sound much better.
