This is one really quiet car! Almost too quiet! I can't count the number of times I looked at the tach to make sure the car hadn't stalled. Besides, I was positive that a decent exhaust could be added to really give the car some additional impact and power. Journey with me as Apex R Motorsports intalls my new Resonator back exhaust. (We kept the resonator to keep the exhaust quiet)

What can I say about his picture? Here they are torching off the hangers for the stock muffler. Wouldn't it be neat to jump your Impreza this high??? NOT!!!

They then took the stock piping, and began to bend me a 2 1/4" ID pipe to replace it. This process went VERY fast. As a matter of fact, I was surprised at how fast this entire thing went!!!

This picture just shows where the piping runs. The bottom arrow points to the stock resonator, while the top arrow shows the course the piping will take.

Here is the comparison of the two mufflers. Stock boring ugly one, and the new straight through design Apex Polished cannister. Note the HUGE 4.5" tip on the new muffler.

They then welded the new muffler into place. They attached new hangers as well to keep the muffler off the ground.

This picture just goes to show you how restrictive the stock headers are. I hope somebody makes a better setup soon!<P>
The new setup was good for ~6hp. Its very quiet at idle, and only gets real intrusive above 4000rpm. Total cost of install (plus parts) was a hefty $320, but worth it, if not for performance, then for the deep throaty growl you get.
