This is a very simple thing to install. It should take all of 20 minutes to do. We have one in our Outback and I like it very much. Even with tint on the rear the auto-dimming feature works fine. Also, I have a very poor sense of direction so for me a compass is a good thing :p

Got the mirror from Lisa W. aka "Sugar" as a vendor on the boards she, can be reached here: 800 584-8727

What you'll need:

Phillips screw driver - Remove overhead console

Small Flat blade screwdriver - Pry down map light lens and remove the spring/clip in the mirrors mounting button

First start by removing the OEM mirror. (Subaru suggests removing the negative side of the battery before you start, it's a good idea) Just rotate it Counter Clock wise and then slide it down and it will come off. I suggest not putting on the new one till you are done with hooking up the overhead harness, it will only get in the way. Now remove the map light lens by putting a small flat blade screwdriver in the little slot at the back. After it's off you can see 2 phillips screws, remove them. Then open the rear sunglass holder hatch and remove the one screw in there. The console will now drop down but be held in place by the map light harness. You can unplug the harness and put the console aside. The plug for the mirrors harness is taped to the harness that goes to the map lights. Remove the tape and plug in the new harness. String the harness through the headliner and put the console back up there. Next remove the spring clip ( "U" shaped wire) and put the new one in that comes with the mirror. Install the new mirror in reverse order to removing the OEM one. Plug in the harness at the back of the mirror. There is a plastic cover that hides the harness, install that and you are done. Now you just have to set the calibration number (it's in the owners manual how to do it) and drive around in a circle a few times to set the calibration. You are done.

Replace the old spring clip with the new one supplied. You can get the old one out with a small screwdriver.

Put the new mirror on the mount, plug it in and put the plastic cover over the wire. I had to tug a little extra wire from the headliner, to make it fit nicely under the cover. Next get the owners manual and set the calibration for your area.
