I had one of these in my RS and our OB VDC has one too. It seems to get plenty dirty after a year so I thought I would put one in the XT too.

What you will need:

Just a phillips screw driver is all - To remove all the glove box screws.



The install is not all that hard but there are a lot of screws to take off to remove the glove box. Not difficult just a little time consuming. I didn't retake pics of removing the glove box, just go here and there are plenty:

Once the glove box is off remove the hatch to acces the air filter or to put one in depending on if you are installing one or replacing a dirty one. Just push down on the lower tabs and lift the bottom out and slide the hatch down.

This is what it looks like w/ the hatch off and no filter

This is what a new filter looks like, this is the top of the filter.

Slide the filter in and make sure you can read "Up" with the arrow.

Then just put the hatch back on and put the glove box back. Pretty simple. Here are the directions that come with the filter

Changed it out the filter this weekend. Less than a year old and you can see it's pretty dirty :wtf:

I have received a Prototype aftermarket (non Subaru) cabin air filter to have a look at and give a test fit. I have not had a chance to pull out the glove box to see if it fits but I have to say, if you didn't tell me I'd swear this is an OEM filter. The side even has the this end up arrow :) I'm attaching pics and will post details on where to get them and who is making them as I get that info. Pics attached, stay tuned.
