Installation of Whiteline Front Strut Tower Brace on WRX
Tools needed:
* 12mm deep socket and ratchet
* 10mm wrench
* 15mm wrench
* 17mm wrench
* 8mm Allen (hex) wrench
* Optional: Crescent (adjustable) wrench or pliers
(All bolt/nut sizes listed in instructions are listed as wrench size, not thread size)
Installation Instructions:
1) Remove the 10mm nut that secures the A/C (air conditioner) hose to the mounting bracket on the driver's side of the firewall (see photo).
2) Remove the 12mm nuts (three each side) from the top of both strut towers.
3) Place strut tower brace mounting bracket on top of strut tower and replace 12mm nuts and tighten. Brackets are specific to each side. The notch on the outer edge of the mounting ring should face the rear of the car (see photos).
4) Using Crescent wrench or pliers, bend A/C hose mounting bracket toward the driver's side of the car to allow clearance room during install. You will bend it back after the brace is in so don't bend it too far.
5) Pull the A/C hose toward the front of the car while lowering the strut tower brace in behind it (between the firewall and the A/C hose) with the bent ends of the strut brace upward (kind of like a very wide "U").
6) Insert passenger side of brace into the mounting bracket and install Allen bolt (but do not tighten yet).
7) Insert driver side of the brace into the mounting bracket. You will need to make adjustments on length of the brace so that the bolt holes line up. Once the holes are lined up, insert the Allen bolt.
8) Tighten both Allen bolts with an 8mm Allen wrench and a 15mm wrench.
9) Tighten the two 17mm nuts on the adjustable ends of the brace.
10) Bend the A/C hose mounting bracket back into place and replace the A/C hose. Tighten the 10mm nut back onto the mounting bracket.
11) Check clearance of all A/C hoses and tubes to make sure that none are rubbing on the strut tower brace. If touching, you can bend them slightly (but be careful) to achieve the needed clearance without damaging them. If they are touching the brace, not only will they rattle, but the constant rubbing and vibration will eventually lead to an A/C line failure.
