View Full Version : Firewall Pass through spot for wires and such Peaty 09-13-2003, 07:59 AM Just thought I'd post where to find the grommet to pass wires from the motor bay into the cabin. Peaty 9/13/03 Peaty 01-06-2004, 09:07 PM Troy was nice enough to pass on this helpful hint: ------------------------ Peaty, Hey I saw your post on the thru grommet on the STi. I don't know what you are doing with the location but I used to install car stereos and alarms and wanted to pass a trick along to you. Find yourself an old collapsible antenna and cut a section of it out that has an inside diameter just larger than the wire or cable that you want to pass through the grommet. Using a bench grinder or similar type sander, grind one end of square and the other end at a step angle like a needle. Sharpen the outside of the angled end so that it will easily penetrate the grommet. Place the antenna over the shaft of a screwdriver, punch or awl. Push the antenna through the grommet, being carful not to penetrate anything on the other side. Remove the screwdriver and feed the wire or cable through. Pull the antenna out the same direction as the cable/wire and then off of the wire/cable. Be careful not to skin off an insulation from the wire/cable with the antenna. If the grommet is rubber it will probably fit pretty snug on the wire/cable. If the grommet is plastic it, the hole will be about the same size at the wire or just slightly larger. Either way you will have a very clean looking hole through your grommet. We called the sharpened antenna a "wire wizard." If you have not already heard of this trick, I hope it helps.
