Would like to post this here, but...

Here's a sample... if you like it, I'll post the same stuff here too...

Sure post it here and we'll move it to the right spot. One thing to watch out for though. In 00' I think they put that type in the Forester then stopped. Apparently they were easy to snap the plastic on and it began to happen a lot

OK... first off, this mod is somewhat time consuming and requires (like many mods) a little bit of trial and error. I think that if I had to do it again, I might reconsider, although I just did this today and have yet to really utilize it.

I used this part: 66150FC010OE
Got it from 1st Subaru Parts (http://www.1stsubaruparts.com)- fast shipping, great prices, great service - also one of the few places to offer a lot of accessory stuff for the 04 models

Not sure which car it comes from though...

First realize that there are these little "nubbins" that stick out of the center air vent that help seat the cupholder...

You need to dremel out a little "cave" for the nubbins to sit in

The other side:

Then drill or dremel out half-holes (? half-moons) on either side of the cupholder.

You can now see how the dual cupholder is supposed to sit within the mounting. the arrows are pointing to the new half-moon holes you just made - this is where the stock screws will go to secure the cupholder into place.

(note: I later realized that it should sit VERY slightly more medial (i.e. towards the middle/hazard button) of the vent due to internal size restrictions.

The flip side of the cupholder - there's this big attachment thing sticking out. You'll have to cut it.

cut along the lines

and you get this:

Now we turn our attention to the lower instrument bezel: Yes unfortunately, you have to cut this also - if it weren't for this, I would wholeheartedly endorse this mod. However, this makes going back to completely stock kinda hard...

Closed: there is a small gap, which really isn't all that annoying, but I'm not quite sure if I should try to do anything with it... any suggestions?

View from the driver's seat...

Also, note that the cupholder now is a "pull to open, push in to close" kind of cupholder as opposed to the stock one, which is a "push in to open and push in to close"

Hope this helps you guys! Good luck if you try this mod. In retrospect, it's really really easy, but just a tad time consuming. Don't forget to wear a mask and goggles when dremeling to avoid small plastic parts flying into your eyes or lungs.

Sorry Peaty - went a little crazy with the size of the pics - was trying to get the best quality pics over - can you size them down to fit the screen when you move them over? I'll leave it up to your judgement.

Thanks for the pics.
