There is always a lot of confusion on where to place the EGT probe for accurate readings. The general consensus is to place it in the number three exhaust manifold about 2-3 inches from the head. If you place it here you will have the highest number of people to compare your readings to.
To do this we removed the heat shield around that side of the header and welded the bung into the header. After the bung was welded in we test fit the heat shield again and then drilled a hold in the shield so the probe could pass through it. To reinstall the heat shield we just spot welded it again in the stock locations.
