This is a fairly simple mod. I just wanted something that would keep bugs and stuff off of the IC core. The Forester XT's IC is inset enough in it's mounts that a screen sits nicely on top of the core w/o a need to secure it. Once you have the screen installed to clean it you can just lift it off.
What you'll need
Woven Screen Mesh - I got mine at a local West Lake Hardware for 2.25 USD / foot. I got 2 feet but you only need one.
Tape Measure - To measure and mark screen material
Marker - To make cut lines on screen
Scissors - Cut Screen material
Optional - Spray paint to paint screen
Lay the screen out on the floor and mark the screen with a marker. I used a straight edge and cut mine at 19.5 X 4 inches. I cut my screen with the short side with the roll in the screen. This made it so the screen was bowed slightly from top to bottom. I tried one screen using the long wise with the roll I found the screen didn't sit right. You'll find the mesh itself isn't exactly parallel. I had to trim mine a little a couple of times to get it to fit nicely. Do a test fit till you get it right. Then if you want put a coat of paint on both sides of the screen. Because the IC core is recessed you can just place the screen with the curve in the screen facing up. It won't move around much at all depending how well you cut it. Just the top and bottom touch the IC itself. I've had mine on a week and it seems to work well. To clean it of I just gently lift it out and wipe it off w/ a brush or wash it with a hose.
