As delivered, the WRX (and I guess other Imprezzas) when you hit unlock once it opens only the driver door, hitting unlock again unlocks the remaining doors. I don't know why, but I find this to be the single most irritating feature evern put on a car.

This modification will allow you to open all of your doors by hitting the unlock button once.

Overview: The key is plug B on the Integrated Unit. The integrated unit is a black plastic box with two plugs into it just above your left knee, mounted at about a 45 degree angle. Plug B is blue and has 16 wire positions. Wire 8 (Red) gets 12V output when the unlock button is pressed once and it opens the driver's door. Wire 7 (Red-Green) gets 12V output when the unlock button is pushed a second time and it unlocks the remaining doors. The solution is to tie wire 7 with wire 8 so they both get 12V at the same time when the unlock button is hit once.

Option 1: Cutting the harness.
- Remove ground wire from battery
- Cut wire 7 (Red-Green) about an inch from plug B. It's a little easier if you remove some of the wrapping tape.
- Cap the wire coming out of the plug because it will continue to get 12 volts sent to it even after the mod.
- Tap the harness end of the Red-Green wire to the Red wire.
- You can use a vampire or something more elegant.
- Replace ground wire to battery
- Test

Option 2. Modify the Integrated Unit.
- Remove ground wire from battery
- Unplug the plugs from the integrated unit and remove the integrated unit from the vehicle. It just slides in, you can yank it out, just be careful not to skin your knuckles. You could also remove the lower dash cover and remove the IU by removing a nut.
- Remove the cover from the integrated unit. There are just a couple of little tabs on either side of the cover, slide the circuit board out.
- Look at the area where plug B is connected to the circuit board. There are 16 prongs that run from the female plug to the circuit board.
- Find the prong that corresponds to wire 7. Be sure you have the correct prong.
- Cut the prong where it bends 90 degrees from the plug to the circuit board.
- Carefully bend the plug end of the prong over to the wire 8 prong.
- Solder the bent wire 7 prong to the wire 8 prong.
- Reassemble the integrated unit
- Reinstall the integrated unit
- Replace ground wire to battery
- Test

I did my mod on a 2003 WRX Wagon 5-speed. Be aware that the integrated unit is a different part number for automatics. I think the instructions are identical for an auto, but I don't know for sure.

That's it. Whichever option you choose you'll now be able to open all of your doors with one push of a button. Let me know if you have any feedback. I'd be curious to know how many other people do this mod.

Pictures to follow, I don't have a working camera at the moment.

Introduction

The feature that the WRX has with its keyless entry is very problematic. You must press the UNLUCK button once to open the driver’s side door, and once more to open the three remaining doors. Numerous times I wanted to open the passenger side door, to get something out of the car, and ended up looking like a fool because the door was still locked. This has annoyed me for some time and with the help of a DIY on this forum , I was able to fix it. The only difference between this DIY and the other one, is that mine has pictures.

Removing the under dash panel

Removing the under dash panel is really easy. There are three screws holding the panel in place. Two are on the left side of the panel, and one is on the right side. With the help of the detail pictures below, remove all three screws.

Once all three screws have been removed, gently pull, with an upward motion, on the panel. Do not pull towards you on the panel because you will break the clips holding the panel. In the picture below, you can see the three clips that are holding the panel in place along with the four wire clips as well. The clips will gently slide out while you’re pulling upwards on the panel. Once you have the panel off, continue by removing the four wire clips still holding the panel.

The left two clips are easy to remove. The center two clips are another story. The last one to the right, of the center clips, is held in place by a bracket. The clip slides into the bracket. I tried many times to slide it out, but was unable to. So, to solve the problem, simply remove the bracket and clip together. The bracket is held in place by one screw. Now, the other clip is a tricky one. I could not find how to remove it for about 30 minutes. To remove it, you must place a flat head screw driver from the opposite side of the clip. Then, push the two snap clips that hold the clip in place. In the second picture below you can see how it’s supposed to be done. Once all the clips are removed, the under dash can be taken off.

Removing the metal bracket

To have better room for working under the dash, remove the metal bracket that is under the steering wheel. This bracket is easy to remove because it’s only being held into place by two bolts. Following the detailed pictures below, remove the bolts and bracket. The picture shows the removal of the bracket bolts with a screwdriver, a ratchet will work best.

Removing and modifying the integrated unit

The integrated unit is what we are looking for in order to do this mod. The integrated unit is a black box located next to the fuse box. The below picture clearly shows the location of the box.

The box is held in place by one bolt. Remove this bolt and remove the box. Once you have removed the box, the wire clip that we are looking for is the blue one. In the third picture you can see the clip. This is the clip that we will be modifying. Take the tape that is covering the wires off and peel back the rest of the plastic cover.

The blue clip has two red wires next to each other. The last one on the clip is a solid RED wire. This wire gets the 12v source to open the driver's side door. The second to last wire is a RED wire with a GREEN stripe. This wire gets the 12v source once the UNLOCK button is pressed twice and opens the other three doors. So, to do the mod, we will connect the RED wire with GREEN stripe to the solid RED wire. Doing so, will provide a 12v source to both wire when the UNLOCK button is pressed only once; therefore, opening all four doors.

Begin by cutting the RED wire with GREEN stripe. I made the cut about an inch and a half from the clip. Next, strip the solid RED wire and splice/connect the RED wire with GREEN stripe to it. Tape off the connection and tape off the cut Red wire with Green stripe.

Finally, replace the integrated unit back into place. Before replacing all the other removed components, make sure that the mod worked. To test, lock and unlock the doors. All four doors should unlock at the same time by only pressing the UNLOCK button once.

Once everything is working, reinstall all the removed components and you are done! If you have any questions, feel free to email me a sti@siliezar.com .

PS. I have attached the Word document that has the entire DIY, including the pcitures, to make your life easier and so you can easily print the whole thing. Enjoy the pictures and comments are welcomed.

Done on 2006 STi... I take no responsibility for you destroying your vehicle, etc... you know what I mean.

1. take apart same stuff as seen in this mod ... doing (the 4 door open with 1 button) up to the 4th post http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3077

Note: only take stuff apart up until the 4th post!!!

On the 5th post notice the first image and all the way to the right is a small darker green connector. To the right of this is a white connector. It will have 4 pins in it, and this is what controls the green keyring LED and chime.

2 green wires = key ring light
2 black wires = noise chime annoyment (black w/ white stripe is what you remove)

You can test all this with a multimeter if you want.... 12v when no key in ignition, 0v when key in ignition (beeping starts)...

2. First unplug the connector. Now take apart the white clip (I know it's pretty hard, but this holds the pins in... mine kinda broke but it still holds everything and you can tape it easily)

Note: the clip will only slide up about 1/2 of the way off (don't pull too much more or you'll pull all the pins out)

3. pull out the "black wire w/ white strip", but don't pull too crazy (like I did) or all the wires come out .... not too hard to figure where they go though as the ones on the other connector are the same colors.

4. tape metal end up and put everything back together.

5. enjoy no chime.
