Subee Sound offer this alternative gauge pod for those who are looking to add center mounted gauges, but want to keep the storage tray. You can buy them from Kevin B. at SubeeSound (http://www.subee-sound.com) You send him your tray and he modifies it for you.

The install is pretty straight forward. You need to remove the stock tray. It is held in with screws that are under plastic covers when the tray is open. After this are removed place a small flathead screwdriver on the side of the air conditioning vents and use ti to gently pry the tabs on the side of the unit out. The vent area and tray come out as one unit. Be careful to not mark up your interior while getting it out. The lid of the tray is just held on by two phillips screws.

The hardest part of the install is the wiring of the gauges in the pod. I ended up enlarging the slots cut in the pod and the tray to make it easier to have the wires run inside of it. Have patience and make sure to leave yourself a LOT of extra wire just in case. The notches that need to be cut in the back of the pod and tray can be seen in one of the pictures below. I suggest putting wire loom or wrapping with electrical tape the couple of inches of wires that can be seen when the pod is open. It makes the presentation nicer. Install in reverse order.
