Kartboy Rear Diff / Cross-Member bushings

Interested in purchasing this product? Scoobymods.com supports and recommends purchasing from any of the following vendors. (each image is a direct link)

This is a very simple install about 10 minutes per side. It can be done while the car is on the ground depending on how low your car is.

What you need:

Eye protection - You'll be under the car and dirt will get in your eyes.

12mm socket or open end - To remove two plate bolts.

17mm socket or open end - To remove the large plate bushing bolt.

Grease - To coat bushings and keep them quiet (I used white lithium grease)

Torque wrench - Torque bolts down.

Optional:

Ramps - To get the car up a little higher, may not be optional if your car is low or your a big person

Gloves - To keep the grease off your hands.

Where to get them:

www.Kartboy.com *

When you get the bushings where will be 6 of them. You only use two of per side (4 total) depending on your Subaru. The Forester uses the two thicker bushings not the large thin one, that's for the GC8.

Kartboy is amoung the first (if not the first) sponsor of ScoobyMods. Getting stuff from KB helps ScoobyMods stay on line

OK start by getting the large 17mm bolt loose then the two 12mm smaller ones. Remove all three bolts. The lower bracket will come along with it.

Grab the cross member and with you strong arm tug it down so you can reach up and remove the round stopper plate form the top of the bushing. Grease up the upper bushing (large diameter thick one for the Forester) and place it on the round stopper plate over the three locating tangs. Now put it the plate back with the bushing (and plate tangs) facing the crossmembers rubber bushing. It may take a little fanegeling but it will go. You might want to use the large bolt you took out as a locating pin to be sure you have it centered properly.

Next, grease up the smaller bushing and put it in the botton indentation of the cross members bushing. Hold it in place while you re install the lower metal bracket. Put the long bolt in and get it started. This may take more relocating of the upper stopper plate but it should go in with some fiddeling. Just get it started then put the two 12mm bolts in. Now you can torque the large 17mm bolt then the two 12mm ones. Torque specs. in scan above. Now do the other side the same way and you are done.

I am installing this same set on my 02 WRX, I have one question. The new upper bushing, is it supposed to fit within the stock upper bushing snugly? Or does it just rest on top of it?

It sort of rests on top of it but it is very snug.
