i've searched everywhere for a detailed step-by-step DIY on porting and polishing a turbo and cant find anything. I was going to send my turbo to deadbolt but i think they dont exist anymore, plus i think i can do it myself and save 200 bucks. there are plenty of other places i can send my turbo to to get it done but i really want to do it myself...anybody have a write up on this? if not, i will do it and learn the hard way
but hopefully it will work out. if it does work out i will post a detailed write up in the contributions section...but if anyone else already has a DIY, post it up! |

really its the same as anything else, i say grab a die grinder, or dremal, and start messing with it, you really cant mess up becuase the metal is really hard and slow going

should i take it apart to do that? if i take it apart wouldnt i need to replace the seals? ive looked around and from what ive found the vf series turbos are "non-rebuildable". should i just leave it alone and throw it in there, or can i grind down some of it and just blow some air or something through it to get all the particles out of it?

i would say pull the turbine housing, thats held on by the vband clamp, port where the exhaust gasses go in to match the gasket thats the main place to do it, then clean it out, and put it back together, be carfull about the turbine wheel, but nothing will need rebuilt

i pulled apart a td04 to do the exhaust side and the compressor side. The exhaust housing is held on with a v-band clamp. The compressor side can be taken off with some snap ring pliers. I broke two snap-on pliers getting it off. The center section is what cant be rebuilt. It is a solid unit kind of. best of luck and post pics of progress or finished product.

i am assuming he has a vf series turbo, whcih can not be rebuilt unless like me you have lots of spare vf parts. but the compressor cover is held on by lke 6 mm screws

i would be interested in where to find seals and such. i did my TGV's and throttle body its pretty easy just take your time and if you get a good accessories kit like an PNP kit from standard abrasives or some other legit company it will make things easier since you will have cones, brushes, rolls, all of diff sizes to get in and out of the little spots easier. can't wait for some pics

LOL fail
i dont think im going to port it because of the wastegate crack, i dont want to make it worse, and if i cant find seals, i dont want to take it apart. so either ill just polish it a little, or i might just not do anything... ![]() |
