I just bought a downpipe off of ebay for $73 shipped. Ordered it on 1/2/10 and recieved it 1/7/10. Pretty quick shipping IMO. Again the gaskets they sent were pretty shitty, might have been decent if the part in the box didn't bend them. They are not even close to being flat. They also sent along a handful of bolts that seem to have no home. they were also just roaming around the box.

The pipe itself is pretty good. Decent welds, and thick flanges. They claim that it is 304 Stainless, but only time will be able to confirm that. I'll get pictures up tonight so you all can see it. If fitment is right then this is a good deal!!

Install:

I installed the downpipe today. It went in well, took a little bit of wriggling to get it on the turbo flange square, the transmission mount didn't line up the greatest, but i got it to work. With all the insulation I put on the pipe hits the firewall, but you can't hear it rattling while driving. I had to move the AC drain line, but with the insulation it shouldn't melt.

Butt dyno tells me the car is very happy with the new mods. Sounds pretty good too. After a 45 min drive home from the install i was able to touch the insulation and hold my finger on it for a few seconds with no burn.

good luck. when i bought my up pipe off ebay it was like 5/8s too short and i had to rig it up so it would fit. hope you dont have to make any serious mods to make it fit.

Yeah i plan to paint the pipe to fight rust, and i picked up some insulation from work that usually goes on big rig trucks, hopfully that will help a lot.

I did test the pipe with a magnet, and it isn't magnetic so it is a 300 series stainless steel.


Here is a few pics of the insulation that i snagged from work. Its a fiber weave against the pipe. 4# Density, .5" thick Fiberglass mat, another layer of weave, then an aluminum type cover.

It all should be going in on sunday, i have to fix a loose heat shield on the up pipe, and insulate it. Replace the double gasket between the up and the headers, paint the headers and install the wrapped downpipe. Should be a pretty fun day!! lol
