Is it time?

Trying to decide what to do. I feel like I need a new car. My 04 Forester XT has about 94K on it now. There is nothing wrong with it and it's paid off. It's still runs great but I'm just getting the itch I guess. The problem is I have so much invested in it I know I'll never recoup what I put in it. I've learned to deal with that, I don't really want to start taking stuff off of it and I'd love to sell it the way it is to someone that will treat it right. Until recently I haven't seen anything from Subaru that makes me want to run out and get it. I don't like the new Forester because the turbo version only comes in an automatic. I can do w/o lots of stuff like leather and a sunroof but I need to have a manual. My dealer just got in a 2010 Legacy GT. I haven't driven it yet and I'm almost afraid to because I have a feeling I'm going to like it too much. As much as I like the idea of a WRX STi they just look too boy racer / transformer ish for me with those rear tail lights. I've never kept a car as long as I have my Forester, I usually get a new one every 3 years or so. Do I drive it into the ground or start looking?

I'm just the opposte of you, i typically get too attached to a car and drive it into the ground. If it was a year or two from now, i'd offer to buy it from you right now, but alas we are saving for a house instead lol

I say test drive the legacy!

You need to get in touch with your inner "boy racer."

If they made the STi with a sedan version, as they used to, it may not have been that bad. I think it was a bad move to force everyone into the wagon..er, "hatchback."

Face it; if you were buying cars for looks you never would have bought a Subaru in the first place!

well, you never get out what you have into it... and if you don't want to detune it, that equates to quite a loss.

That said, if you want something fun, get a Cayman - you can then pitch the miata too.

I suggest you keep the Forester, though - maybe get some new in-car-entertainment - or an in-car computer or something cool, geeky, and tinker-able.

Well last week I checked how much more we owe on the Tribeca, not a lot but I don't want two car payments. I'm gonna keep the Forester for a while. I'm still very happy with it and see no reason to get another car right now. I like the LGT but not enough to make me abandon my F-XT. Besides I think the LGT may be longer than my Forester and then I won't be able to park the Miata in front of my Forester in the garage

Well the subject has reared it's ugly head again the other day. There is a local guy that I've helped work on his Bug eye wagon. He took it and bought a wrecked STi and put the drive train and motor in it. He put the motor in that in his son's 01 RS. He called me the other day asking if I'd sell him my Forester. I thought he was just fishing and checking but yesterday he showed up at my house wanting to look at it closer. I was on the way out (and late) so I had to take off. He called again today but once again we were going somewhere. He's coming over tomorrow to take it for a drive. I told him I would not be ready till spring (I think) but now I have to decide if I want to sell and what's I'd replace it with. My wife thinks the Imperza STi is "cute" but hell I'm going to be 50 next year. I don't want to be an old fart tooling around in an STi. I'm also not crazy about the new look. I wish I could find a nice Spec-B legacy but I may get a GT instead. I thought I was done thinking about this...

well the LGT Spec B are very classy and nice, but in my opinion so is an 07 white Limited sti, or a wingless white sti with just some clean upgrades.

I know about seeing my car in the hands of others. My 95 Ford Contour SE is still around town. The thing about this person getting it is, he's a fellow scooby owner. He has an RS and the bug eye with a full STi drivetrain/motor swap. It will be in good hands. Letting go isn't as much an issue as finding something to replace it. While I like the Leggy GT I've been told by a few trusted others that the shifting with the new 6 speed is for shit and they way to go is the CVT with the H6. I guess the best way to find out is to give it a try and keep an open mind
